Abstract: Defining literature as a set of verbal artefacts which occasion a reading experience pertaining to the aesthetic mode, the article attempts a description of aesthetic experience with the instruments of cognitive psychology. The author affirms that the aesthetic experience of literary texts is defined by a specific attentional profile and discusses several traits of attentional activities in the aesthetic mode. The author highlights the possible consequences of this reflection on the teaching of literature.
