Abstract: The paper focuses on the presence of divinity in the Old and New Testament, especially in the figure of the hidden God. The silence of divinity in the Bible can fulfil several functions: punishment, proven faith etc., bringing man face to face with a terrible reality; God can be silent and behave like a “hidden God”. This hidden God is, therefore, to man, the source of a profound anxiety and of an incapacity to understand Him. That is why we find in the Bible many occurrences of this hidden presence of divinity. Because this presence is a real paradox: God is there through His silence, through a covered presence or through an “idea of presence”.
