Abstract: The following study refers succinctly to Romanian historical Avant-garde’s critic process of legitimating, focusing mostly on the impact of occidental acknowledgement. External legitimacy played a determinant role in the inner reconsideration of our historical Avant°garde. Even in their case, the need for artistic internationalizing, for escaping from a suffocating obscure province (the atmosphere of small towns or Romania judged as the periphery of civilized Europe) associates with a certain tradition’s inertia (understood as Modernity’s critical filter) and a feeling of “constructive” responsibility.
