Abstract: Far from being a mere addendum to his poetic activity, Fundoianu’s articles and essays make up an autonomous and relatively unified work in itself. The author does not seek generally acceptable solutions, but personal and, sometimes, even paradoxical points of view. Symbolism and Neoclassicism, to his view, become compatible because they are founded on the same anti-naturalistic platform. Despite the fact that he saw excess as a sure access path to innovation, his modernism and his anti-traditionalism remain both moderate.
