Abstract: The way we make our choices is no longer strictly based on the ability of a text to function as historical document, but also on the way we perceive the value of literary works in a present encounter. We may argue that the totality of monuments – in keeping with the distinction made by Paul Zumthor for Medieval texts – constitutes a canon.
