MICHEL DEGUY
Abstract: The paper starts from the presence-absence duality, to point out and describe “the exercises of the presence”, which unveil and, at the same time, hide various meanings. Like the eclipse, the being becomes the proxy of a presence and, likewise, the one that rejects it. A close bond is, therefore, established between identity and alterity, between what we know and what we perceive as an invasion of the private space or as a threat. That is why the co-presence can be another name for the familiar, close appearance.
